

MUMBAI — Malaysia Airlines has signed a strategic partnership with the Mumbai Indians, joining the cricket franchise as an associate sponsor and its official global airline partner. The collaboration aims to strengthen the airline’s presence in India, a key international market, while leveraging the massive global reach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) team to drive brand loyalty and tourism.
India is a vital hub for Malaysia Airlines, which currently operates 80 weekly flights connecting 10 major Indian cities to its global network. Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), described the partnership as a “strategic commercial investment” designed to tap into a highly engaged audience to stimulate both trade and tourism.
The announcement coincided with a cultural celebration in Mumbai at Jio World Gardens, where traditional Malaysian Wau Bulan kites were flown during the Makar Sankranti festival. The event was attended by Mumbai Indians’ head coach Mahela Jayawardene alongside senior airline representatives.
